Honoring the Class of 2012 at the 4th Annual
San Diego County High School Filipina/o Graduation

San Diego, CA – Kuya Ate Mentorship Program (KAMP), Kalusugan Community Services (KCS) and Filipino American Educators Association of San Diego (FILAMEDA)
will be hosting the 4th Annual San Diego County High School Filipina/o Graduation (HS FilGrad). The celebration will take place on Sunday, May 27, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park. With a large Filipina/o American community in San Diego, it is important to celebrate the successes of our graduating youth. FilGrad is a graduation organized by the Filipina/o American community that recognizes
the academic and community achievements of all San Diego High School Filipina/os graduating seniors.

“The reason I wanted to do this was because I promised my mom when I was younger
I would look into the audience and say ‘I did it, I graduated!” – Eddie Bernardo, Westview HS c/o 2011

KAMP, KCS, and FILAMEDA will be partnering with several community organizations to contribute to the success of this event. FILAMEDA will be honoring their 2012 scholarship recipients who have exhibited great dedication to their community and academics.
Also, present will be Kalusugan Community Services who is the proud fiscal sponsor of this event.

“…It [FilGrad] fosters a lot of good things for our community and I think it needs to keep going,” Christian Rodriguez, HS FilGrad Graduate c/o 2010.

If you are interested in participating in the graduation ceremony, schedule a visit to your school, make a donation, or volunteering for FilGrad 2012.

Local Libraries to Display Traveling Exhibits

Local Libraries to Display Traveling Exhibits

Escondido, CA - The San Diego Archaeological Center is excited to promote five exhibit installations at local branch libraries and San Diego City Hall lobby. The history of San Diego County has been well-documented in books. However, artifacts recovered from archaeological sites can reveal a more personal account of the past. The everyday objects that pass through our hands, used and then discarded, capture significant details not often noted in history books.

These exhibits recount the everyday lives in American history as lived by San Diegans and recorded by the artifacts they left behind. This is a great opportunity to tour City libraries and view the Center’s traveling exhibits. There’s so much to learn about our city’s rich cultural heritage!

February 17-29, 2012- Skyline Hills Branch Library- “The Legendary Life of Nate Harrison”
March 1-31, 2012- Oceanside Public Library- “Celebrate Women’s History Month”
March 1-31, 2012- Oak Park Branch Library- “A Day in the Life”
April 1-May 21, 2012- Tierra Santa Branch Library- “Rose Canyon, a Walk through Time”
May 1-31, 2012- San Diego City Hall Lobby- “Moments in Time”

What will we leave behind for future archaeologists to find that will tell of our experiences today?
