Calling All Professional Freelance Videographers

The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, a nonprofit organization, is seeking professional freelance videographers for documentary-style videotaping of meetings, cultural celebrations and various community events. Shoot and provide raw video footage only. Must have his/her own HD camera and audio capability to record through a 2+ hour meeting. Must be willing to provide samples of raw footage (bring in person or we will review and return to you). Must be available to work evening and weekends. Hourly rate based on experience. Some 24,000 grandparents in San Diego County have primary responsibility for their grandchildren. Being a grandparent who’s also parenting later in life has its unique challenges and rewards. Fortunately, San Diego County has many resources for these special families.

Diamond Neighborhoods Community Health and Wellness Survey

The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, with the help of community residents, is conducting a neighborhood-specific survey to collect health-related data. With this data we plan to work with other community organizations to help create better policies and programs to improve health, safety, equity, and overall quality of life in the area.

Survey Topics Include:
• Personal Health and Wellness
• Healthy Eating
• Safe and Attractive Neighborhoods
• Quality of Life and Community Participation
• Transportation and Mobility
• Demographics

Who Can Participate?
Residents, 14 years old or older, who live in one of the Diamond neighborhoods:
Mount Hope, Valencia Park, Mountain View, Emerald Hills, Webster Oak Park, Chollas View, North Encanto, Lincoln Park, South Encanto.

Third Annual Jerry Griffen Toy Drive

The Southeastern Division of the San Diego Police Department and the Jacobs Center
for Neighborhood Innovation partnered for the third annual Jerry Griffen Toy Drive
on Dec. 15. The partywas held at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center in southeastern
San Diego where toys were distributed to underprivileged children in that area.
The Jerry Griffen Toy Drive is in memory of a fallen San Diego Police motor officer
who was killed in the line of duty.

In this drama young Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) responds to a school assignment with a plan to help three people who will, in turn, help three more, and so on, in an ever-widening circle. But Trevor touches more people than he expected.

February 17 • Motorcycle Diaries (R)
This tells the incredible true story of a 23-year-old medical student from Argentina who motorcycled across South America with his friend on a personal odyssey that ultimately crystallized the young man’s budding political beliefs.

March 16 • Battle in Seattle (R)
With the World Trade Organization about to convene in his city, Seattle’s Mayor Jim Tobin (Ray Liotta) tries to make sure all events go smoothly. As tensions between protestors and authorities rise out of control.

After thousands of people around the world joined together to record banal and remarkable everyday events on July 24, 2010, director Kevin MacDonald led a team of editors to condense more than 4,500 hours of video into this picture of life on Earth

May 18 • La Mission (R)
Ultra-macho ex-con Che Rivera learns the true meaning of being a father when he discovers his son is gay. Rivera turns violent at first, but when a beautiful neighbor helps him see through his anger, he begins to reconcile his long-held beliefs.
